Exploring Humanitarian Law (EHL) - curriculum workshop for teachers.
When: Saturday, November 7, 2009 - 9:00AM to Noon.
Where: U. C. Berkeley
Registration is free
This workshop, presented by the American Red Cross, and co-sponsored by World Savvy and ORIAS, provides resources to help students understand the rules governing war and their impact on human life and dignity.
The EHL education toolkit developed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is used in secondary schools worldwide. Curriculum materials include five extensive modules focusing on teaching the history of international humanitarian law since World War I and empowering a student response to contemporary human suffering as a result of armed conflict.
Each module contains primary source materials, such as news accounts, photos, videos, maps and letters, along with activities such as dramatic scenarios, case studies for analysis, and hands-on activities.
Workshop participants will receive professional training in using selected modules and a copy of the entire toolkit on CD.
