Ramayana in Odissi Dance

NAVARASA ("Nine Moods") - page 6

The Dance: From Ramayana in Nine Moods
Demonstration: Mood of Virtue

Final Performance of this piece of the dance.

MOOD TWO - VIRTUE
The next mood is - it goes to virtue. When there is a bow of Lord Shiva and different kings have to go and lift the bow. Whoever succeeds to lift the bow will be given the hand of Sita. Many heroic kings walk and try to lift the bow with their pride and ego. But they can't even shake the bow. Only Lord Ram with his humble approach was able not only to lift the bow, but as he tried to string it he broke the bow in two pieces. That shows that strength and virtue only comes true when the humbleness takes place.
