The Office of Resources for International and Area Studies, ORIAS (University of California, Berkeley) and Bay Area Global Education Program, BAGEP (a collaboration between Stanford University School of Education and the World Affairs Council of Northern California) are pleased to announce a series of Saturday teacher institutes designed for middle and high school educators. The series will present sets of visual materials to enrich the state-mandated curriculum on world history and to address visual literacy skills. Classes will combine lectures by university scholars in comparative religion, archaeology and art history and curriculum development workshops. |

November 18 |
Classes: will be held on the UC Berkeley campus or at the World Affairs Council in downtown San Francisco from 9:00AM - 4:00PM on Saturdays. Mornings will be devoted to content lectures and afternoons to curriculum demonstration and development. The series is free of charge for auditors. The entire series may also be taken for two graduate credits (30 hours) through International and Area Studies. |
Faculty: ORIAS instructor, Edan Dekel, will be joined by visiting lecturers from U. C. Berkeley for the morning content sessions. Afternoon curriculum/resource workshops will be coordinated by curriculum specialists working with BAGEP. |
A limited number of tuition scholarships (2 graduate credits) or $300 stipends will be available from BAGEP for teachers completing the morning and afternoon sessions. |
This course is conceived as interrelated units but single sessions may be audited, subject to space availability.
